Let’s admit it guys, we can be pretty lazy in relationships. We tend to act like God glorifying friendships will grow and flourish without purposeful effort. Ask your married friends... relationships take work! It’s true for us as singles too. One area of notable neglect for guys can be our relationships with single women. Friendships with girls can be difficult. Ulterior motives, selfish ambition, fear of man (or woman), and apathy can hinder us from glorifying God in this area of our lives. The ROOF GUYS want to take a few days on this blog and discuss ways that we can serve and bless our sister’s in Christ with genuine brotherly love and care. Recently Josh Harris preached a two part series at Covenant Life Church on courtship/dating. I encourage you to download and listen to these messages. They provide a biblical mindset not only for entering into courtships, but also for genuine friendships. One of the texts that Josh preached from was Romans 12:9-10 “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” This is the heart attitude we want to communicate to our sisters in Christ. Remember, we are going to be worshiping Christ together for all eternity! That should be proper motivation for building meaningful friendships. The focus of this particular discussion will not be courtship, dating or romance. Maybe later, but for now let’s talk about friendships. As we carry out this discussion, please feel free to e-mail us any questions or leave us a comment!
Great start to a fascinating topic. Keep up the good work. How about making sure to include practical stuff as well as theory?
